Life of an Art Student

Hola!

These past two months I have felt like school has taken over my life, lucky for me I am not in any intense calc classes like my roomie Nat is, but Hope and I were assigned an Art Midterm that definitely made us consider how smart it is to double major. I actually love both of my majors immensely and they both have many similar principles and job outlets. One of the most substantial aspects I have learned about my Studio Art major is just because I am majoring in studio art, that doesn't mean I have to become a "starving artist" although I have definitely romanticized the idea in my head. Right now I am leaning towards becoming an Art Director for a brand, company, or nonprofit.

Back to the fun stuff, my mental breakdown with wire hangers and Hope's mental breakdown with glue and tons of colorful yarn...

Basically this assignment was to make a wearable art piece (NOT A COSTUME) made out of materials you could access easily and create a project inspired by an artist and get this... wear the art piece to class. Also to turn in photographs that captured the piece in an environment. After about two weeks of brainstorming ideas, going to class with glue on my hands and stealing cardboard from my dorms recycling I finally constructed the "sunflower wings." Hope Ann's project required gluing yarn around balloons and popping the balloons to only get the outline of the ball made out of yarn. Needless to say I think I heard Hope drop the F bomb 13 times while completing this piece.

After a night of binge watching all the Victoria's Secret fashion shows on youtube, I realized that someone at Victoria Secret should buy my wings, seriously do it.

Short post because I have to work on more homework, but hopefully expect more soon during Thanksgiving Break. Happy November!

Peace,

BETH
